The next chipset from Qualcomm’s 7-series is here, and it offers a few slight improvements over its predecessor. A direct successor to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 from the previous year, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 (SM7750-AB) features an essentially unaltered Kryo CPU with the same 1+3+4 core architecture.
The 7s Gen 3’s 1x Prime Cortex-A720 core was clocked at 2.5GHz, but it is now 2.7GHz. The four Cortex-A520 (1.8GHz) modules and three Cortex-A720 (2.4GHz) units continue to operate at the same clock speeds. According to Qualcomm, you should anticipate a 7% increase in CPU workload performance.
Qualcomm claims that the upgraded Adreno GPU in the new chip provides a 7% gain over its predecessor. Additionally, it offers Snapdragon Elite Gaming capabilities, including Snapdragon Game Super Resolution and Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0.
Support for ultra-wide monitors (up to 1,300 x 2,900 pixels) at a refresh rate of 144 Hz is the new feature. Additionally, Qualcomm is introducing an upgraded Spectra ISP that supports Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG), HDR10, and HDR10+ formats and can capture 200MP cameras and 4K video at 30 frames per second.
With real-time translation and support for Llama 1B and Qwen 1B, the upgraded Hexagon NPU provides improved AI performance. In addition to UFS 3.1 storage and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ charging technology, the chip has LPDDR5 RAM operating at 3,200 MHz.
The new 7s Gen 4 chip has support for Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6E, and sub-6 GHz 5G. Additionally, the aptX Lossless and aptX Adaptive audio codecs are supported.
Qualcomm has not yet disclosed the phone that will use the new chip.
