Despite being a tier below Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship SoC, Qualcomm has a new 8-series chipset. Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is meant to deliver the flagship-level experience of the Elite model at a lower price point.
The 8 Gen 5 uses Qualcomm’s third-generation Oryon CPU, which offers 2x prime cores clocked at 3.8GHz and 6x performance cores clocked at 3.32GHz, like the 8 Elite Gen 5.

Qualcomm is comparing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5’s performance to the two-year-old Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, claiming 36% improvement in CPU tasks, 11% in GPU performance, and 46% in AI tasks.
SD 8 Gen 5 gets the same sliced Adreno 840 GPU with Frame Motion Engine 3.0 as the 8 Gen Elite 5, but without Adreno High-Performance Memory.
Besides Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU, the new chip supports on-device AI and multi-modal input, offering 46% improvement over the SD 8 Gen 3. Aside from Qualcomm’s Spectra ISP, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 also includes the X80 5G Modem-RF System, which was also used on the Snapdragon 8 Elite last year.
With the OnePlus Ace 6T/15R, OnePlus will be the first to market with SD 8 Gen 5. It is also expected that other OEMs, such as iQOO, Motorola, and Vivo, will announce phones with the new chip in the near future.
