With the latest addition to the M-series chipsets – Apple M2 Ultra – the Mac lineup has been overhauled. Based on Apple UltraFusion architecture, M2 Ultra combines two Apple M2 Max chips with up to 2.5TB/s of bandwidth. Apple’s top-tier chip is fabricated on a 5nm process of the second generation.
The new 76-core GPU inside M2 Ultra is 30% faster than the GPU inside M1 Ultra, and Apple claims 20% faster CPU performance. With 32 cores, the Neural Engine (NPU) offers a 40% performance boost over the M1 Ultra. Up to 192GB of unified memory can be configured in M2 Ultra (50% more than M1 Ultra) with 800GB/s bandwidth, which is double the bandwidth of M2 Max.
As for real-world performance, Apple claims 50% faster video processing and 22 streams of 8K ProRes video playback. Up to six Pro Display Pro XDR displays can be connected.
M2 Ultra will be available in two new Macs – the M2 Ultra Mac Studio and the updated Mac Pro. The transition to Mac silicon has now been completed by Apple.
Apple Mac Studio & Mac Pro:
Mac Studio now offers 192GB of unified memory and supports 8K monitors, as well as HDMI connectivity with a refresh rate of 240Hz. In addition, Mac Studio now supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
As for the new Mac Pro – it’s available in both tower and rack-mounted enclosures with the iconic aluminum chassis and the brand-new M2 Ultra chip. It supports PCIe expansion with the ability to add and swap video cards. There are six PCIe gen 4 slots available. Depending on the workflow, professional users may also add digital signal processing (DSP) cards, serial digital interface (SDI) I/O cards, or additional network and storage.
Up to 24 4K camera feeds can be encoded to ProRes using the Mac Pro with M2 Ultra. A total of six Pro Display XDRs can be connected to it, as well as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. In addition, there are 2 USB-A ports, 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, and 2 10GB Ethernet ports.
On apple.com/in/store and in the Apple Store app, you can order the Mac Studio for Rs. 2,09,900. Both tower and rack-mounted enclosures are available for the Mac Pro. Mac Pro (Tower Enclosure) starts at Rs. 7,29,900, while Mac Pro (Rack Enclosure) starts at Rs. 7,79,900.
Beginning Tuesday, June 13, the product will be available in Apple Stores and Apple Authorised Resellers.
