The first CAD-based renders of Apple’s long-rumoured foldable, tentatively dubbed the iPhone Fold, have surfaced, giving us our clearest look yet at the device’s design and proportions.

These renders are based on CAD files shared with case and accessory manufacturers, and they reveal some very unconventional dimensions compared to existing foldable phones.

A wide inner display, landscape by default

As earlier reports suggested, Apple appears determined not to go with a square inner screen like many competitors. Instead, when you unfold the iPhone Fold, you’re immediately in landscape orientation.

This approach could be tied to Apple’s software strategy. A landscape-first layout might make it easier to run iPad apps on the foldable from day one, potentially without requiring developers to rework their existing tablet apps significantly. That part is speculation, but it would be a logical way to leverage the existing iPad ecosystem.

Screen sizes and resolutions

According to the CAD data, the inner folding display measures 7.76 inches diagonally and carries a resolution of 2713 x 1920 pixels.

On the outside, the cover display measures 5.49 inches and has a 1422 x 2088 resolution. This gives the phone a rather unusual aspect ratio on the front, unlike the more conventional tall-and-narrow covers we see on many current foldables.

In terms of physical size, the iPhone Fold reportedly measures:

  • Folded: 120.6 x 83.8 x 9.6 mm
  • Unfolded: 120.6 x 167.6 x 4.8 mm

Cameras and layout

The renders show an in-display selfie camera integrated into the main folding screen, so there’s no notch or large cutout—just a subtle outline for the camera under or within the panel.

The cover screen, on the other hand, uses a more familiar hole-punch cutout for its own selfie camera.

On the back, the iPhone Fold carries a dual-camera setup. The two lenses are housed in an oval-shaped bar that resembles the design language of the rumoured “iPhone Air” lineup, giving the foldable a distinctive yet still recognisably Apple look.

Possible launch timing

Rumours suggest Apple may choose to unveil the iPhone Fold as early as September, likely alongside its traditional iPhone lineup event. However, several recent reports claim that, even if announced this year, the device might not actually go on sale until early 2027.

That would give Apple additional time to polish both the hardware and the software experience, as well as secure a more mature production pipeline for the foldable display and hinge components.

For now, these details come from CAD-based leaks and supply chain chatter, so things could still change before the final product is locked in.
