Apple is reportedly planning to release the iPhone 18 in 2026, which will have a hole-punch display and under-display Face ID for the Pro models. More significant changes, such as a “mostly glass” design and a complete under-display camera system, are anticipated for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary in 2027.
According to a recent Weibo post by tipster Digital Chat Station, Apple plans to redesign the iPhone 18. The post’s primary topic is the phone’s display. First, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max’s 6.27- and 6.86-inch displays are still the same size. Second, they will use LTPO panels with 1.5K resolutions. More information isn’t provided in the post, though.
The TrueDepth camera system and front-facing camera will be replaced. Currently, Apple stores these parts on what it refers to as “Dynamic Island.” Essentially, it’s a floating pill-shaped cutout on the phone’s front. Digital Chat Station asserts, however, that Apple will use a hole-punch design for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models.
Although many Android phones have used this for years, Apple may finally embrace it.
This is not new information. Although we have heard these rumours previously, it is encouraging to see some confirmation. Be aware, though, that Apple has not yet fully embraced under-display. As of right now, only Face ID will be displayed. The front-facing camera won’t change. This could be the reason for Apple’s use of hole-punch cutouts.
Rumours also suggest that the iPhone 18 might have a 2nm chipset and use Apple’s new C2 modem.
