Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports in his Power On newsletter today that the upcoming iPad Pro may actually use the M4 chip, skipping over the M3.

iPad Pro 2024:

With the M4 chip’s upgraded Neural Engine, the company would highlight the new iPad’s AI capabilities. Later this year, Macs will have the M4 chip.

There will be other new features as well, including the OLED display, repositioned FaceTime front camera, and a redesigned Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil.

Since most of Apple’s AI software is planned for iOS 18 at WWDC in June, it’s unclear what AI features will be ready for the spring.

Besides the new iPad Pro lineup with 11-inch and 13-inch screens, we are also expecting the new iPad Air lineup, featuring a larger screen. In the fall, updates will be made to the other iPad models. Apple Pencil with haptic feedback is also on our list of anticipated iPad accessories.

Apple Pencil:

During Apple’s May 7 event, the company will also unveil a new generation of the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, alongside the new iPad Pro and iPad Air. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new Pencil will include haptic feedback. It should make using the digital stylus more realistic.

Even though details are light, you can imagine how the haptic feedback produced by the Pencil will vary based on the tool selected in the drawing app. For example, the Pencil may feel rougher and heavier when in crayon mode.

The new Pencil will also include additional gestures in addition to haptic feedback. According to code references previously spotted by 9to5Mac, a new ‘squeeze’ gesture will bring up a contextual menu based on the current task. With the squeeze gesture, users could add shapes, stickers, or text to the canvas quickly.
