The new 50MP ISOCELL GNK camera from Samsung offers improved video recording capabilities and a wider dynamic range for still images. This sensor is a direct successor to the 50MP ISOCELL GN1 that is widely used by other OEMs and Samsung as well.
In terms of specs, the GNK is identical to the GN1. The 50MP imager measures 1/1.3″ in size and offers 1.2m pixels. In order to improve the sensor’s performance, the company used other smarts. By improving focus time, the Dual Pixel Pro autofocus ensures sharp photos of moving objects.
Furthermore, in Pro mode, the GNK can capture 14-bit RAW images and has a dynamic range of up to 120 dB. With three different ISO modes, the GNK can achieve such a wide dynamic range, while also reducing motion artifacts.
The sensor is capable of recording 8K 30fps videos without losing too much field of view. The software also supports HDR videos and FHD footage at 240 frames per second.
Despite Samsung not disclosing the first phones to use the new sensor, we should see the ISOCELL GNK next year.
