Believe it or not, Instagram has at last rolled out a dedicated app for the iPad—no, this isn’t some elaborate prank, we swear it’s the real deal.
The team behind it admits that “folks have been clamouring for this for quite some time,” which feels like a massive downplay if there ever was one. But hey, they’ve apparently poured effort into crafting a layout that amps up the best bits of Instagram on that larger canvas. That said, the main feed still hangs out smack in the centre of your screen, leaving some blank real estate on the sides. We can’t blame them entirely, though—the iPad’s screen proportions are worlds apart from an iPhone’s, making it a puzzle to utilise every inch without awkward stretching.
So, the big mystery lingers: if this is the result, what on earth caused such a lengthy delay? Odds are we’ll stay in the dark forever, short of an insider spilling the tea in a tell-all book someday.

Fire up the app, and you’ll dive straight into Reels for that immersive, big-screen vibe packed with fun clips. Stories sit up top as usual, with direct messages just a quick tap from reach.
A fresh “Following” section graces the iPad version too, giving you choices like All (a mix of suggested posts and reels from folks you follow), Friends (tailored suggestions from mutual follows), and Latest (a straight chronological feed starting with the newest stuff). While bingeing Reels, you can pop open comments without shrinking the video—thanks to that extra space the aspect ratio provides in the interface.
The Instagram iPad app is now available on devices worldwide, compatible with iPadOS 15.1 or newer. Android tablet users, hang tight—the optimized version is on its way shortly.
