At its next Snapdragon Summit in 2025, Qualcomm is anticipated to introduce the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. It is claimed that this chipset has the model number SM8850. Alongside the 8 Elite 2, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (model number SM8845) may also be unveiled by the company, according to rumours. What to anticipate from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 was revealed in a Weibo post published today by tipster Digital Chat Station.

The upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is neither a rebranded version of any current Snapdragon 8s series chipset nor an iteration of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (SM8735), according to the tipster. It has been positioned as a genuine flagship chip of the Snapdragon 8 series since its launch.

In addition to Qualcomm’s unique Oryon CPU architecture, which supports the SME (Scalable Matrix Extension) instruction set for on-device AI acceleration, he clarified that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 employs the same TSMC N3P process as the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2v. Its architecture and specifications are therefore very promising and worth looking forward to.

To demonstrate the chip’s significance in the future flagship market, he added that numerous top smartphone manufacturers are already placing bets on it. He concluded by saying that this generation of the Snapdragon 8 series does not have an SM8835. The SM8850 and SM8850s (which might be released later as the Leading Version) are the only models in the lineup.
