Xiaomi might be preparing to return to one of its less conventional design philosophies. Digital Chat Station, a well-known source, has leaked information about a new flagship handset that would reinstate a full-size rear secondary display.

Although the blogger did not specifically mention Xiaomi, the hints were clear enough. The document mentions a flagship device with a Qualcomm SM8850 or Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor and a design language that includes a “horizontal large matrix full-size sub-screen DECO.”

According to reports, the phone also has a vertical hole-punch periscope telephoto camera on the back. Later, the leaker confirmed in the comments that this is a “wide screen” variant rather than a foldable tablet.

Several Chinese media publications claim that the Xiaomi 16 Pro Max is the device in question. It will reportedly replace the Xiaomi 15 Pro, and the Xiaomi 16 and 16 Pro are rumoured to be the line’s more compact variants.

It’s still just a rumour. And the return of the rear sub-screen will surely be the phone’s most notable feature, regardless of its name. The Xiaomi 11 Ultra had a small 1.1-inch AMOLED screen on the rear when it was released in 2021.

Performance-wise, the phone is anticipated to come with Qualcomm’s SM8850 processor, which is produced using TSMC’s 3nm process and has an internally created CPU core design.

The chip reportedly scores around 4000 and 11000 points, respectively, in the single-core and multi-core Geekbench 6 tests. It is supported by an Adreno 840 GPU and a 16MB GMEM for flagship-level graphics. LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage will probably be part of the memory setup; a 12GB + 256GB configuration might be the starting point.
