Huawei introduced the world’s first market-ready tri-folding smartphone in September 2024, a testament to the industry’s progress when it chooses to. We are now in the 2nd quarter of 2025, and no rival for the Mate XT has yet emerged.

Digital Chat Station, a well-known leaker, has reiterated that Samsung is about to release the first-generation Galaxy Fold.

While its screen is expected to be 9.9 inches rather than 10.2 inches like its Huawei counterpart, its shape may or may not resemble that of the Mate XT.

Anyhow, it is believed that Samsung is pushing the Galaxy G Fold as one of the most niche devices available today, which, given that the Mate XT has been sold in China in 2025 at least 420,000 units, compared to 1 million for its more traditional Mate X6 counterpart, is not too surprising.

According to Digital Chat Station, the “G Fold” is expected to arrive later in 2025, alongside more conventional foldables such as the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7, as well as its first, potentially more affordable FE version.
