In recent years, OnePlus has made significant investments in camera capabilities to address picture quality, a key area of customer concern with its phones.
A recent rumour claims that it will now take things to a new level. “A proprietary platform built to take full control of photo and video processing” is the description of the so-called “Image Engine” that OnePlus is purportedly developing.
Advanced imaging algorithms are reportedly included in this to improve dynamic range, skin tone accuracy, and low-light detail “in ways OnePlus has never been able to before.”
It will make its debut on the OnePlus 15, which will be powered by Qualcomm’s forthcoming Snapdragon Elite CPU and have a triple 50 MP camera system on the back. It’s uncertain whether the partnership with Hasselblad will continue with the release of this OnePlus Image Engine; in fact, there have been numerous rumours in recent weeks suggesting that it won’t.
It is unclear if there is a difference between the OnePlus Image Engine and Oppo’s Lumo; this might be a simple rebranding.
