The GSMA database shows Samsung’s Galaxy S26. This suggests the phone is legitimate and ready for release. This database included the Galaxy S26 Edge and Ultra a few weeks ago. Also featured is the standard Galaxy S26. We learn more about the new S26 series.
Galaxy S26 is intriguing. People were surprised by its model number. Samsung formerly employed a basic model number scheme. Regular models conclude with 1, Plus with 6, and Ultra with 8. The Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra were SM-S931, S936, and S938, respectively. The Galaxy S26 was expected to be SM-S941. Actual name: SM-S942. Though tiny, this alteration may be significant.
The GSMA database now lists the Galaxy S26 (SM-S942), Edge (SM-S947), and Ultra (SM-S948). Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus is absent. No model number, like SM-S946, is visible. This suggests Samsung may not offer a Plus model this time.
Samsung has not commented officially. The Plus model may be offered later. Samsung used to add all models to the database early. The Plus model may be scrapped if it’s not seen in a few weeks.
Samsung may possibly be offering the basic S26 some Plus capabilities. This explains the SM-S942 model number instead of SM-S941. Maybe the screen, battery, or camera will be larger or better.
Another intriguing development is the continuation of the “Edge” concept. Samsung calls its tiny cellphones this. Now it appears that the Galaxy S26 Edge will replace the Plus variant, providing a unique option between the standard and Ultra models. Samsung has introduced a “Galaxy S25 Edge” variant, anticipating that the Galaxy S25+ will sell less than the standard and Ultra models. The Galaxy S26 Edge, the successor to the S25 Edge, will also be introduced.
Model number system indications are also available. Phones with higher numbers are typically better. Due to its greater number, the standard S26 may be more advanced. Samsung continues to rank phones by number with the Edge and Ultra versions ending in 7 and 8.
An actual Galaxy S26 is recorded in the GSMA database. The missing Plus model and revised model number suggest Samsung is reversing course. Maybe the Plus version is late, or the corporation is abandoning it. More will be revealed in the coming weeks. For now, the Galaxy S26 series appears to be different, and Samsung may be introducing a new phone range.
