Nothing will launch the Phone (3), its first official flagship smartphone, in July. The company has just begun to tease the device before that, and it made a depressing announcement about it today.

It turns out that the Glyph LED lights on the back of the Nothing Phone (3) will not be present. Over time, these and the translucent appearance have made the Nothing Phone series distinctive and readily recognised; however, they will not be included in the next flagship.

This is certainly not the whole story, but that seems like a strange choice. According to one remark in the X thread above, nothing will switch to a dot matrix instead, which is undoubtedly the next natural move.

However, we must ask how many people would miss the lights on the phone’s back if there were Phone (3). Maybe it’s just us, but this always seemed like a deliberate ploy to make Nothing phones readily recognised, which is usually a big problem for a new company. What are your thoughts? Have you ever used the Glyph lights if you’ve owned a Nothing phone? If you had one, would you have? Tell us in the comments section.
