In October 2023, Google announced that its Pixel 8 series smartphones will receive seven years of Android updates. Apple’s 5-year commitment to iPhones and iPads was simply unheard of in the smartphone market.
This development appears to have caught Samsung’s attention. According to Android Headlines, the Galaxy S24 series may also receive updates for 7 years.
If true, these devices would potentially last until Android 21 (expected on launch), which would significantly extend their lifespan.
However, the publication did not confirm whether this includes just security updates or the full Android/One UI/feature package.
The Galaxy S24 series will be officially unveiled by Samsung on January 17. We will soon find out if these long-term update plans are true, as the launch date approaches.
