In the past, it has been reported that Apple plans to use iOS 18’s AI features and software for its next-generation iPhone 16 series. Ming-Chi Kuo’s latest information also reinforces the previous report. A significantly upgraded microphone is expected to be part of the iPhone 16 lineup next year. Despite its success in other AI areas, Cupertino-based Apple still lags behind Google and OpenAI in generative AI.

In a Medium post, Kuo says Siri’s hardware and software features will be key to promoting AI-generated content. As a result, all iPhone 16 models will be equipped with upgraded microphones for better voice and speech recognition for Siri and other AI features. With the major microphone upgrade, Siri will have a better signal-to-noise ratio. Additionally, it is said to be more water-resistant.

Voice input processing will play a significant role in Apple’s generative AI ambitions and large-language models. Siri will also feature more AI features in the future. Apple reorganized its Siri team in Q3 2023 to integrate generative AI and machine learning.

Apple is said to have spent a lot of money on upgrading the microphones on the iPhone 16 series. ASP for iPhone 16 microphones is expected to be 100 – 150 percent higher than iPhone 15. The specification upgrade will benefit Apple’s suppliers AAC and Goertek.
