Although Samsung has been launching tablets for over a decade, the Galaxy Tab S series never received water- and dust-proofing. According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Tab S9 series will finally get the feature, previously reserved for the Active line.

In recent years, Samsung has added coatings to its tablets to repel water and dust, but now the Tab S9 will receive the IP67 seal of approval. The official certification took so long because of insurance and warranty reasons, so it’s unclear if the new tablet will be even better protected.

If the Galaxy Tab S9 tablets were protected from water and dust, there would be more use cases for them, such as in the bathroom or in the kitchen. It is expected that the new devices will be available in the second half of 2023, likely alongside the Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Flip foldable.
