With six months until Apple unveils the next generation of iPhones, the iPhone 14 is now undergoing engineering validation testing. The long-rumored Periscope design with 5x optical zoom could be featured in the 2023 iPhone line according to a new report.
9to5Mac reports that Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu says the iPhone 14 is now in the EVT stage and there is no effect from the previous Shenzhen lockdown.
According to 9to5Mac, the lockdown is not likely to affect iPhone production since it is not the main Foxconn factory that produces iPhone chips.
The analyst also shared some details about the upcoming iPhone 14. Apple’s A16 chip, which will make up the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, will be bigger than its A15 counterpart, despite its shift to 4nm.
A 5x optical zoom periscope camera for the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max with 5x optical zoom is still a high probability for the 2023 lineup, according to Jeff Pu. The analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported that Apple could introduce this new camera design for the iPhone 14.
As for the product proposition, we expect iPhone 14 to feature a large screen (entry model) and a new camera (48MP for Pro). In contrast, we expect the iPhone 14 to start at a price similar to the iPhone 13.
In addition, Pu also mentions Apple’s future OLED iPad. Apple will adopt OLED panels in 2024 for 11 and 12.9-inch iPads, he predicts. The Elec reports that the analysis corroborates Pu’s, although it seems unlikely that Apple will switch to OLED for its iPad Pro. Apple is likely to use OLED for its iPad Air.
