Motorola is gearing up to introduce a powerful new smartphone, codenamed “Urus,” that’s said to feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. While Qualcomm officially unveiled its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC in September, the standard, non-Elite version followed shortly after. The OnePlus 15R, launching internationally on December 17, will be the first device globally to utilise the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip under the hood.

Although Motorola hasn’t announced anything yet, the company confirmed to Qualcomm that a new Motorola handset powered by this processor is on the horizon. Well-known tipster Evan Blass reported that “Urus” will be a flagship device without folding capabilities, and it’s likely to come to market as the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra. As for a Motorola device powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, speculation points toward the upcoming Razr 70 Ultra folding phone.

Currently, the Motorola Edge 70 series offers only one model—the Edge 70—unveiled last month. This phone runs on a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor and features a 6.7-inch 120Hz display with a resolution of 1,220p, along with a robust 4,800mAh battery. Camera enthusiasts will find three 50-megapixel cameras: one for selfies and two on the rear, making it a versatile photography tool.

In summary, Motorola’s upcoming “Urus” could mark the debut of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in their non-foldable flagship lineup, potentially appearing as the Edge 70 Ultra. Meanwhile, the Razr 70 Ultra may be the company’s first device powered by the top-end, Elite Gen 5 chipset.
