The most recent leak about Xiaomi’s forthcoming 17 series focuses on the Pro Max’s camera configuration. After yesterday’s performance details, leaks are now revealing what makes the Pro Max unique. It’s not a complete overhaul, but rather a minor adjustment that could have a significant impact on photographers.
Three varieties of the Xiaomi 17 series—the standard Xiaomi 17, the 17 Pro, and the high-end 17 Pro Max—are anticipated to be released before the end of September. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 CPU from Qualcomm, which will be unveiled next week, is probably going to power all three. However, the camera hardware, which was co-developed with Leica, continues to be the deciding factor for many consumers.
The most recent leak claims that the Pro Max and the Pro share the majority of their camera technology. This comprises a wide ultrawide lens with a focal length of 17mm and a 50MP primary sensor with an f/1.67 aperture. Leica adjusts both to provide the vibrant colour balance and fine detail Xiaomi has been promoting in previous generations.
The telephoto lens is where the difference is seen. Although a 5x optical zoom is anticipated for both the Pro and Pro Max, the Max is said to have a slightly wider f/2.6 aperture than the Pro’s f/3.0. On paper, this modification should increase the amount of light that reaches the sensor, perhaps enhancing image quality in low light and producing more natural bokeh effects in portraiture.
While not a significant shift, it does imply Xiaomi is repositioning the Pro Max as the superior option for zoom-heavy photography without throwing off the lineup’s equilibrium.
