Xiaomi has just unveiled HyperOS 3.0, which is built on Android 16, and has released a lineup of phones and other devices that can participate in the beta testing phase. Keep in mind that this rollout is kicking off in China first, so features and timelines may differ elsewhere.
Super Island:
The update introduces some subtle design tweaks, including fresh icons, an updated status bar, and a new feature called Super Island. Additionally, there are enhancements to AI features and some behind-the-scenes optimisations to make everything run more smoothly.
Super Island feels a lot like Apple’s Dynamic Island—it pops up with handy info on ongoing app stuff, reminders, reservations, music controls, and the like. The twist is that on HyperOS, it hangs out in the notification shade even when you’re not using it.
Icons:
The icons have a cleaner, more minimalist vibe that incorporates a hint of the iOS flair. You can also tweak your home screen grid layout and enjoy a refreshed status bar. They showcased a redesigned dialer, but this feature may be China-specific, as their ROM utilises a built-in phone app, whereas global versions rely on Google’s.
Similar to what Oppo and OnePlus offer, Xiaomi is introducing ways to connect with iPhones, iPads, and Macs for seamless file sharing and transfers.
They’ve listed the devices that qualify for the HyperOS 3.0 beta, along with their rollout dates. The whole stable release is expected to be available sometime in the last quarter of 2025.
