One of Samsung’s most recognisable smartphone features may undergo a significant overhaul. A recent leak suggests that the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which is anticipated to be on sale in early 2027, would not come with an integrated S Pen. Longtime admirers of the Note heritage may be disappointed by this decision.

Setsuna Digital, a Chinese leaker, made the accusation. According to the report, Samsung is considering removing the built-in pen slot in favour of other design goals, such as bigger batteries or better cooling. If accurate, the Galaxy S27 Ultra may either do away with the pen completely or adopt the strategy of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which allowed the S Pen but needed an extra cover to store it.

Samsung’s reversal of its stylus approach is not the first indication. Internal limitations may also force the corporation to reallocate capacity within the gadget, according to reports from tipster @PandaFlashPro. The Galaxy Z Fold7 is reported to lose several S Pen functionalities to achieve a thinner form. At the same time, the Galaxy S25 Ultra came with a downgraded S Pen that was missing features like Bluetooth Air Actions.

It’s becoming increasingly obvious that Samsung is shifting its S Pen focus from smartphones to tablets. If the report turns out to be true, the Galaxy S27 Ultra might be a game-changer, as the S26 Ultra is still anticipated to include the built-in pen.

Some may view it as the end of an era for the former Note-inspired Ultra series, while others may embrace the trade-off if it means greater performance or longer battery life. As usual, plans may change before launch, but if Samsung decides to proceed without the S Pen, it will be one of the most significant design changes in the history of the Galaxy Ultra range.
