On May 13, Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S25 Edge, which features a skinny profile of just 5.84mm. Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to debut later this year with a similarly sleek design, is thought to be the reason for this launch.

The Galaxy S25 Edge and the iPhone 17 Air have prompted several Chinese smartphone brands to compete in the ultra-thin phone market. The Oppo Reno and Find X series are already positioned as Android alternatives to the iPhone. Oppo is now developing a direct competitor to the iPhone 17 Air and the S25 Edge, according to a post by Digital Chat Station on Weibo.

Weibo post suggests Oppo may launch an ultra-thin flagship phone to compete with the iPhone 17 Air. Commenters on Weibo are seen discussing their expectations for the device, which includes a large battery, a periscope camera, and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor.

Oppo may still be able to pack all flagship-grade features, including a large battery, into a phone that’s just 6mm to 7mm thick. With its slim design and big battery, the Find X8s+ offers a promising example.
