In 2025, Dolby Laboratories will introduce its premium cinema offering, Dolby Cinema, to the Indian market.
Dolby Cinema screens will be installed by six exhibitors across the country as part of the initial rollout:
-
The Pride of City in Pune
-
Hyderabad’s Allu Cineplex
-
Trichy’s LA Cinema
-
Bengaluru AMB Cinemas
-
Kochi’s EVM Cinemas
-
The G Cineplex is located in Ulikkal
A specially designed auditorium environment combines proprietary audio and video technologies, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Dolby Vision aims to improve brightness, contrast, and colour reproduction compared to standard screens.
With Dolby Atmos, sound can emanate from all directions, including overhead. According to Dolby, each seat in the auditorium will have an optimal viewing experience.
According to the company, the initiative aims to provide Indian audiences with an experience aligned with the filmmaker’s original creative vision.
Dolby noted that 24 Dolby Atmos theatre mixing facilities exist in India to support content creation for this format. In addition, Dolby recently collaborated with Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad to establish the country’s first Dolby Vision colour grading facility for cinema, giving local filmmakers access to post-production tools.
