In the past, Samsung introduced groundbreaking features and abandoned them after a while. The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s camera could be one such feature making a comeback.
According to tipster Ice Universe, Samsung could equip the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s camera with variable aperture. Reports suggest this feature will be available only on the phone’s primary rear camera. This feature is available on Huawei and Xiaomi flagship phones, but it wasn’t the first to be offered.
Samsung introduced dual-aperture technology as part of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. They could switch between F1.5 and F2.4 depending on the scene. With an aperture setting of F1.5, more light is allowed into the camera sensor, resulting in decreased noise, but a narrower field of view. When there is no shortage of light or when a wider field of focus is required, the F2.4 aperture would be ideal.
Samsung removed this dual-aperture feature from the Galaxy S10 series with the Galaxy S20 series. Samsung plans to bring variable aperture with the Galaxy S26 series. There is no indication of whether it is a genuinely variable aperture (multiple settings), as on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, or a dual aperture (just two settings).
