Samsung recently hinted at its next-generation tri-fold smartphone during the Galaxy S25 Unpacked event, showcasing only a silhouette of the forthcoming device, leaving the specifics shrouded in mystery.

Subsequent leaks from the tipster yeux1122 on Naver have shed more light on this innovative foldable, reportedly named the “Galaxy G Fold.” The new device is slated for a possible release in the third quarter of 2025, marking it as one of Samsung’s most pioneering ventures into foldable technology to date. According to the details revealed, the Galaxy G Fold will boast a 9.96-inch display, which represents a nearly 30% increase over the 7.6-inch screen of its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The device, when folded, is expected to measure 6.54 inches in height, aligning closely with the dimensions of traditional smartphones.

Design:

In terms of design, the Galaxy G Fold is rumoured to feature a novel G-shaped folding mechanism that enables both sides of the display to fold inward, a significant shift from Samsung’s previous models. This approach not only enhances the phone’s aesthetic but also offers increased protection for the screen by keeping it covered when not in use, contrasting with Huawei’s Mate XT, which uses an S-shaped fold that leaves portions of the screen exposed.

Samsung is reportedly developing a specialized display and a new protective film specifically tailored for the Galaxy G Fold, aimed at improving the device’s durability. However, due to the complex nature of its design and manufacturing, the production volume is expected to be limited, positioning the Galaxy G Fold as a high-end, experimental product rather than a standard flagship.

Launch & Pricing:

Despite earlier speculations of a 2026 launch, display expert Ross Young suggests that the release could be expedited to late 2025, potentially debuting alongside the anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7.

Pricing for the Galaxy G Fold remains speculative, but given the $2,800 launch price of the comparable Huawei Mate XT, it is anticipated that Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone will also command a premium, possibly exceeding $2,000.
