The OnePlus Open 2, the brand’s next foldable phone, will launch soon, and early renders have provided a glimpse of its design and features. In a new report from Smartprix, several key improvements are highlighted in the device despite its familiar appearance.
Design:
OnePlus Open 2 retains its signature circular rear camera housing from its predecessor, the OnePlus Open.
The internal camera layout has changed, with three rear sensors positioned at the top of the circle and Hasselblad branding at the bottom. Its curved edges are also noticeable, unlike the original Open’s flat body.
It’s similar to the original when unfolded, but it’s smaller and thinner. This could be one of the thinnest foldable devices on the market with a folded thickness of under 10mm. As these renders are based on a late-stage prototype, the final design may differ slightly.
Specs:
OnePlus Open 2 will feature an 8-inch, 120Hz, 2K LTPO main display, an upgrade from its 7.82-inch predecessor. Additionally, the outer screen will increase in size from 6.31 inches to 6.4 inches.
The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC and features 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, with additional configurations possible. The handset will feature a triple 50MP camera system, while the front-facing cameras are expected to remain the same as the original Open model, with a 32MP and 20MP camera.
There are a bunch of improvements coming to the OnePlus Open 2, including an IPX8 water resistance rating. There’s also an increase in battery capacity to 5,900mAh from 4,800mAh.
There’ll be 50W wireless charging first for the series- and 80W wired charging, up from 67W. It’ll run OxygenOS 15, based on Android 15.
Launch Timeline:
The OnePlus Open 2 is scheduled to launch in China in early 2025, followed by a global release in the first quarter of 2025. It is likely to come in at least two color options, including black.
