Before the Xperia launch event scheduled for May 17, tempered glass lens protectors for the upcoming Xperia 1 VI and 10 VI appeared on Japan’s Rakuten Market. Interestingly, both protectors are physically larger than their predecessors and feature wider apertures, which may lead to larger camera sensors.

In comparison to the 1.3 x 4.9cm structure on the Xperia V, the lens protector for the Xperia 1 VI is 1.5 x 5.2cm, while it is 1.6 x 3.3cm on the Xperia 10 VI, which is also physically larger than the camera island area on its predecessor. These larger camera islands could be purely aesthetic, and the sensors inside may remain unchanged.

Xperia 1 VI will feature a 48MP, f/1.9, 24mm, 1/1.35 camera, as well as a 12MP, f/2.2, 16mm, 1/2.5 ultra-wide camera and a 12MP, f/2.3, 85mm, f/2.8, 125mm, 1/3.5 telephoto camera. As with the Xperia 1 V, which debuted with the Exmor T sensor last year, this camera hardware appears to be identical.

Xperia 1 VI renders recently leaked showed a similar design to the Xperia 1 V with a tall 6.5-inch screen and a new aspect ratio that does not follow the 21:9 ratio from previous models. There are also rumors that Sony will drop the 4K resolution from its flagship phone. It is expected that the launch device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and will have up to 16GB of RAM.
