Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that Apple and Google are discussing integrating Google’s Gemini AI engine into the iPhone. With ChatGPT, OpenAI began the AI revolution in 2024, which all the tech giants have already joined.

Cupertino lags behind Google and Samsung in integrating AI into its products. This perception may change with the Google deal, however.

Gurman’s report indicated that both corporations are actively negotiating to allow Apple to adopt some of Google’s generative AI models into its upcoming iPhone 16 series later this year. Apple also discussed using OpenAI’s AI model in future iPhones, according to the report.

Apple will benefit greatly from Google’s Gemini AI model if it uses it for some of its AI activities. Gemini-powered Samsung flagships for 2024 already feature AI features.

According to Gurman’s report, Apple has been testing its proprietary Ajax language model. Several employees have also been experimenting with Apple GPT, a rudimentary chatbot.

Gurman was informed by a source familiar with the situation that Apple’s technology lags behind Google’s and other competitors, making a partnership more feasible.

The iPhone 16 series and iOS 18 are expected to introduce several AI advancements this year. Using advanced language models, Apple plans to improve Siri’s and Spotlight’s responses to complex questions, according to another Bloomberg report.
