Are you familiar with the chunky bezels that surrounded early iPhones? Over time, Apple gradually began slimming down bezels, and the latest iPhone 14 series is essentially all-screen. According to rumors, the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max will have the thinnest bezels ever seen on a smartphone display.

Ice Universe, a reputed tipster who loves ultra-thin bezels, provided the information. Apple’s upcoming flagship smartphone will feature impressively thin bezels measuring only 1.55mm, down from 2.17mm on the current iPhone 14 Pro Max. With 1.81mm bezels, the Xiaomi 13 currently holds the record for the thinnest smartphone bezels. Comparatively, the Galaxy 22 and S23 have bezels that measure around 1.95mm.

It is arguably an interesting upgrade, but should you actually care about “ultra-thin” bezels? There is no doubt that it is a matter of personal preference. It may not make much difference to the user experience if the iPhone models have slim enough borders to begin with.

Although Ice Universe specifically mentions the Pro Max model, recent renders suggest thinner bezels on the smaller iPhone 15 Pro as well. Both phones will feature the Dynamic Island design with a pill-shaped punch hole in the center. In addition, the design may also appear on the vanilla iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. Despite offering Dynamic Islands, they may not offer ProMotion and AOD.
