At the end of this month, Sony may or may not announce the Xperia 1 V at MWC in Barcelona. Here’s the first leaked image purportedly showing the upcoming flagship smartphone while we wait to see if it actually happens.

If you compare this camera island with the Xperia 1 IVs, you’ll notice that the ToF camera and RGB IR sensor are gone. There are now three big sensors, the lowest of which has a periscope camera (they look larger than on the 1 IV). Last year’s handset had the LED flash outside the island, above it, but this year it is inside the island.

It’s obvious this leaked unit is the international version of the Xperia 1 V – if it were for the Japanese domestic market, then we’d have seen the Felica logo instead.

The Xperia 1 V will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is no surprise. That could make it the hottest smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 since it is also the thinnest. We expect Sony to have some kind of cooling solution, and we hope that will alleviate the thinness.

Stay tuned for all the details about the Xperia 1 V, if it is indeed announced at MWC. There are sure to be more leaks in the meantime.
