According to a new rumor, at least one display feature from the iPhone 14 Pro is set to make its way onto standard iPhone 15 models.
A pill-shaped Dynamic Island replaces the iPhone notch after five years, but it is limited to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. This cutout can be used to check system alerts, as well as current activities in progress such as game scores, and is not static. You can also expand Dynamic Island to see more details about an activity.
The Dynamic Island is likely to be included in the non-Pro iPhone 15 models, according to display industry insider Ross Young. According to earlier rumors, all iPhone 15 models would feature pill-shaped and hole cutouts.
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are not expected to have a 120Hz display and this might not be a deliberate decision.
For its ProMotion displays, Apple uses LTPO technology. In spite of the fact that a 120Hz refresh rate makes moving content look fast and smooth, it can be a battery hog and isn’t needed when static text is displayed on your phone.
As the technology has improved, the phone can now scale down the refresh rate to a mere 1Hz, allowing it to show useful information like the time and widgets even when the lock screen is dimmed.
According to reports, Apple buys LTPO screens from Samsung and LG and 60Hz screens from BOE for its standard models. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will feature 60Hz displays since BOE apparently won’t have LTPO screens ready in time for launch.
Next year, Apple’s models will be more differentiated. There will be more differences between the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max than just the display and battery size.
