Just two months later, at the end of August, we’re experiencing déjà vu again thanks to the ROG Phone 6D and 6D Ultimate. PhoneArena reports that the 6 series’ Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is being swapped out for a Mediatek Dimensity 9000+ system-on-a-chip.

In theory, this should lower the cost barrier to entry at least somewhat. Even though it’s unclear what other changes have been made, the new models are nearly identical to their predecessors.

There seems to be little difference visually between the 6D and 6D Ultimate renders and the ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro, except perhaps a new slate gray color. The Dimensity-powered models would only be available in black or white, unlike their Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-powered cousins. As shown in the renders, both upcoming revisions will retain their respective light-up back panels, triple-camera arrays, and flashy branding.

In spite of the silicon swap, ASUS is positioning the Ultimate as the top-of-the-line model, so other features may make it stand out. The details will be revealed on September 19th when these are scheduled to launch, but as usual, we’ll try to let you know sooner rather than later.
