Previously we saw various leaks suggesting that the next gen flagship chipset will be called as SD875 SoC from Qualcomm. But now the company has completely changed its naming strategy this year and jumped directly to SD888 SoC. Yes, the next flagship chipset is named as Snapdragon 888 SoC.
At the annual Snapdragon Summit Qualcomm unveiled the 2021 flagship chipset SD888 SoC that will be powering major flagships. Brands like ASUS, Black Shark, Lenovo, LG, MEIZU, Motorola, Nubia, realme, OnePlus, OPPO, Sharp, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE will be the first to launch their smartphones with new SD888 SoC that comes with faster 5G support. Further, Lei Jun revealed that Xiaomi Mi 11 series will be the first smartphone to be using the most powerful SD888 SoC.
The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC comes with 3rd gen Snapdragon X60 5G -RF System that supports global mmWave and sub-6 across all major brands worldwide. It also comes with 5G Carrier Aggregation, multi-SIM support, stand alone, non-stand alone, and Dynamic Spectrum Sharing.
The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC features 6th gen Qualcomm AI Engine with new Hexagon processor that offers whopping 26 tera operations per second and comes with second gen Qualcomm Sensing Hub. The SD888 SoC also comes with third gen Snapdragon Elite Gaming with new Adreno 660 GPU.
The new SD888 will also have support for 2.7 gigapixels per second or roughly 120 photos at 12MP resolution with new Qualcomm Spectra ISP processor. This time the new ISP is almost 35% faster than the SD865 SoC. The new SD888 SoC comes with 5 nm process with single ARM Cortex X1 which is clocked at 2.84 GHz. The next set of three Cortex A78 cores which is clocked at 2.84 GHz & four Cortex A55 cores clocked at 1.84 GHz.
