In China, Vivo has officially launched the teaser campaign for the X Fold5. The brand is doubling down on an ultra-slim design for its next foldable. It has an even thinner profile than the iPhone 16 Pro when unfolded.
Vivo has confirmed another key feature of its new device today. With triple-proof protection, the X Fold5 will be the first foldable with water, dust, and drop resistance.
It has an IP5X rating for dust resistance. With the X Fold5, the company offers the highest dust protection level compared to last year’s model. The phone is IPX8 rated for waterproofing. According to reports, it can withstand immersion in water up to 3 meters, which is higher than the 1.5 meters Samsung claims for its Z Fold 6.
It also boasts an IPX9 rating for protection against high-pressure water jets and an IPX9+ rating for underwater use. According to Vivo, the foldable can be opened and closed 1,000 times underwater at a depth of one meter.
Vivo X Fold5:
The new Vivo X Fold3 Pro will sport a massive 8.03-inch internal QHD+ AMOLED (2,480 x 2200p) LTPO 3.0 display with a 120Hz refresh rate. A secondary 6.53-inch FHD+ OLED (2748 x 1172 pixels) display with a 120Hz refresh rate will also be available. Sadly, the device still features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC now powers the new Vivo X Fold5 with 12GB/16GB RAM and 256GB/512GB/1TB storage space. The device features triple-rear cameras with Zeiss branding and T* coating. It has a 50MP primary Sony IMX921 sensor with OIS and a 50MP ultra-wide sensor. There is a 50MP Sony IMX882 telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, 60x zoom, and OIS support. The internal and external display features a 32MP selfie shooter under the punch-hole notch.
The connectivity options include dual SIM with dual 4G LTE and 5G (Dual-mode support), A-GPS, GPS, GLONASS, Wifi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and USB Type-C port. It also features an IR blaster, dual speakers, an X-axis linear motor, a glass back, and an IPX8 certification.
The Vivo X Fold5 will pack a 6000 mAh battery with 90W fast wired and 30W wireless charging support. It runs on Android 15 OS with Origin Ocean OS 5.0 on top. It will be 4.3 mm thick; when folded, it will be 9.33 mm thick.
