Snapdragon 8150

We have barely seen the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in action, but a renowned tipster on X shared some interesting details about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. So far, the tipster’s leaks have been mostly accurate, so we can trust it.

Qualcomm will once again rely on TSMC to produce the 3nm-based Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset next year, according to @Tech_Reve. TSMC is again the chip designer’s choice because it’s planning to use custom Oryon CPU cores and doesn’t want to compromise power and efficiency. The performance and yields of Samsung haven’t convinced Qualcomm.

For the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in 2025, a dual chip sourcing strategy is still on the table, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 for Galaxy will be produced at Samsung’s foundry 3GAP. According to a Taiwanese news outlet.

Since the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset differ significantly, Qualcomm’s decision makes sense. With the former, Samsung was responsible for throttling issues and lower efficiency, while TSMC’s fabs produced a better chip.

As for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, the tipster suggests that it will provide impressive performance without consuming too much power. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is claimed to surpass 10,000 points on Geekbench 6, while the Adreno 830 GPU offers the same level of power consumption as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with excellent performance gains. There is a rumor that the whole SoC consumes just 8 watts.
